Terms & Conditions

The rules for using Catch Pins — kept as plain and simple as the app itself.

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Fish Gallery iOS application ("the app"). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Use of the app

Catch Pins is provided free of charge for personal, non-commercial use. You may use the app to create fish and lure cutouts and identification suggestions from photos you own or have the right to use, and to keep a private, on-device log of your catches.

2. Your content

The photos you import or capture, the cutouts created from them, and the names, catch details, locations and dates you save remain yours. They are stored only in the app's private storage on your device and are never transmitted to the developer. You are responsible for the content you choose to process with the app and for ensuring you have the right to use it.

3. Identification accuracy

Species identification suggestions are generated by on-device machine-learning models and are best-effort only. They may be incomplete or incorrect. The app is not a scientific, regulatory or safety tool: do not rely on its suggestions to determine whether a fish is safe to eat, handle or approach, whether it is legal to keep, or whether it meets a size, season, bag or protected-species restriction. Confirm species with a trusted field guide, your local fisheries authority, or a qualified expert when accuracy matters.

4. Measurements, conditions and weather data

Catch measurements are whatever you type in; the app does not verify them and its records are not suitable for record certification, tournament scoring, or any other competitive or official purpose.

Historical weather, wind, pressure and sea-surface temperature are supplied by Open-Meteo's public API and are provided under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. Sea-surface temperature in particular is a model estimate rather than a measurement at your exact spot. These values are informational and may be inaccurate, delayed or unavailable, and the developer does not control that service. Moon phase is calculated on your device and is likewise approximate. Do not rely on any of it for navigation or for decisions affecting safety.

5. Location

Catch locations are optional and are recorded only from a photo's embedded GPS, your current location, or a pin you place yourself. As described in the privacy policy, weather sharing is off by default. When you choose Add Weather or enable automatic weather in Settings, retrieving weather sends a coordinate rounded to two decimal places, plus the date and hour, to Open-Meteo. You can decline and continue to use the app.

6. Intellectual property

The app, including its design, code, and bundled assets, is the property of the developer and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. The app includes open-source components from Fishial.AI, BioCLIP 2, TreeOfLife-200M, and Microsoft ONNX Runtime, used under their respective licenses. Those license texts are available in the app under Settings → Privacy & acknowledgements.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app except where permitted by law;
  • use the app in any way that violates applicable laws, fishing regulations, or the terms of any third-party service it relies on;
  • use the app to process content you do not have the right to use; or
  • use the app or its bundled models to identify or target protected, endangered or otherwise restricted species for unlawful purposes.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The app is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. The developer does not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that identification suggestions will be accurate, or that weather and condition data will be available or correct.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the app. Because your data is stored only on your device, we recommend backing up your device regularly; the developer is not responsible for data lost through device loss, failure, or app deletion.

10. Updates and availability

The developer may update, modify, or discontinue the app (or any part of it) at any time without notice. Updates may be required for the app to continue functioning on newer versions of iOS.

11. Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with its effective date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
