When reporting a problem it helps to include your iPhone or iPad model, your iOS version, the app version from Settings → Version, and what you were doing when it happened. Please don't send catch photos you'd rather keep private — a description is usually enough.

Common questions

Does Catch Pins upload my photos?

No. Cutouts and species identification run entirely on your device with bundled models. No photo, cutout, fish name or note is ever sent to the developer or to anyone else.

Does the app need an internet connection?

Only when you choose to add weather. Photo import, cutouts, identification, the catch map's pins, your details and the whole gallery work with no signal at all.

If a catch has a location, Catch Pins asks whether you want to add its weather. If you agree, it asks Open-Meteo for the historical conditions. If you're offline the catch still saves — it just won't have the weather tiles filled in.

Exactly what location data is sent for weather?

A catch coordinate rounded to two decimal places — about a kilometer of imprecision — plus the catch date and hour. That is the app's entire request. Your exact coordinate stays on the device, as do the photo, name and catch details. Like any web request, Open-Meteo also receives your IP address and says request logs may be retained for up to 90 days. No account, API key or app-generated identifier is involved.

Why did identification return the wrong fish?

Suggestions are best-effort and can be wrong. A clear, well-lit side view with the fish separated from the background gives the model the best shot. You can always edit the name before saving, or change it later from the catch card.

Can I log a whole trip at once?

Yes. Choose several photos — or hundreds — from your library and Catch Pins processes the batch, letting you review, name and keep or discard each fish before anything is saved.

Do I have to fill in weight, length and the rest?

No. Every catch detail is optional. A catch with nothing but a photo and a name is a perfectly valid entry; the extra fields are there when you want them.

Can I use pounds and inches instead of kilograms?

Yes — pick Imperial or Metric in Settings and the whole log switches. Measurements are stored the same way underneath, so switching back and forth never changes or loses a value.

How does a catch end up on the map?

Three ways: from GPS already embedded in the photo, from your current location when you shoot it, or by dropping a pin yourself. You can remove a location at any time, and catches without one simply don't appear on the map.

How do I delete my data?

Open a catch card and choose Remove from gallery. That deletes its original photo, cutout, lure images, name, details, date and location. Deleting Catch Pins removes all remaining app data from the device.

Why can't I take a photo in Simulator?

Camera capture needs real hardware. Use Choose from Photos when testing on a Simulator.

What devices are supported?

Catch Pins requires iOS 17 or later and runs on iPhone and iPad. On iOS 26 it picks up the system's Liquid Glass materials automatically.

Is there an account, subscription, or ads?

None of the above. No account system, no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no analytics.
